Guild History

In September of 1979, 19 women became the charter members of the Green Country Quilters Guild. As with most people with a common interest, they were interested in sharing their interest and skills as well as learning from other like-minded people. The meetings consisted of teaching techniques, sharing hints and show and tell of the finished quilts. After the U.S. Centennial in 1976, many people became aware of quilting as a hobby that could be entertaining, soothing and practical.

In July of 1981, less than two years after the guild was founded, eight members held meetings to gauge the interest in starting a night group of the guild. In October 1981, 19 charter members founded the night group of the guild. The two groups shared a newsletter but had separate officers and programs. Today the two groups together are about 350 strong with members in Tulsa and many surrounding areas.
