Green Country Quilters Guild 2010 -- Quilt Crazy

Information Sheet

General Information

  1. Non-members must pay a $20 entry fee for the first quilt and a $5 entry fee for each additional quilt. Checks should be made payable to "GCQG."
  2. Completed entry forms will be accepted at any monthly group meeting or they may be mailed to: Green Country Quilters Guild, P.O. Box 472321, Tulsa, OK 74147. If you wish for your entry to be covered by insurance, you must include a photograph with your entry form. Deadline for entry forms is May 10, 2010..
  3. All entries must be displayed for the entire show. Nothing will be removed before 6:00 p.m., Saturday, June 5, 2010.
  4. Every effort will be made to assure your entry's safety. Liability insurance is provided through the National Quilters Association (NQA). A photograph of your entry is required if you wish for it to be covered by this insurance. 24-hour security is provided at the Exchange Center.
  5. Each entry must have a fabric identification tag including the entrant's name, address and telephone number firmly sewn on the back of the item.
  6. Each entry must be submitted in a cloth bag. No plastic bags will be accepted. ENTRIES MUST HAVE A 4" SLEEVE ATTACHED SECURITY (NO PINS!). All quilts longer than 90" should have a 4" sleeve on the back of the quilt no more than 90-92" from the bottom. EXCEPT FOR MINIATURES, QUILTS WILL NOT BE DISPLAYED WITHOUT A SLEEVE!
  7. The owner does not necessarily have to be the maker.
  8. It is up to the owner of the quilt to enter the quilter's name (if professionally quilted) in the competition.
  9. Items previously entered in a GCQG show will not be accepted.
  10. The Show Committee reserves the right to re-categorize entries as necessary. Each category must have at least six (6) entries to maintain a category; otherwise, the entry will be re-categorized.
  11. At the judges' discretion, first, second, third and honorable mention awards will be given in the various categories. All awards may not be given in each category. ALL DECISIONS OF THE JUDGES ARE FINAL.

Special Awards

Best of Show: This award is given to the maker of the quilt, which, in the sole opinion of the judges, is the most outstanding quilt entered in Quilt Carzy 2010.

Viewers' Choice: This award will be given to the quilt collecting the largest number of votes from attendees of Quilt Crazy 2010.

The following awards will be given to the quilts exhibiting the finest work in their respective categories.

Best Machine Quilting - Professional

Best Machine Quilting - Amateur

Best Hand Quilting

Definitions

Amateur: One who does not earn money from piecing and/or quilting.

Applique: The creation of pictures or patterns by applying pieces of material onto a background fabric.

Art Quilt: Quilt should be an innovative design. Traditional blocks may be used with significant deviation. Originality of design, use of color as a design element, and use of theme or inspiration will be elements in the judging.

Baby Quilt: The quilt should be made for a baby. Quilt should be no longer than 60" on any side.

First Quilt: First quilt made.

Machine Quilted, Professional: One who earns money piecing and/or quilting. If you pay to have the quilting done, or if you get it for free, but the person normally charges, it is still "Professionally Quilted."

Master's Category: If within the last five (5) years you have:

1) Sold your work (either quilts or wearable art)

2) Published a pattern or book on quilting or wearable art techniques

3) Won at least two blue ribbons at an NQA judged show

Pictorial Quilt: Illustrates a recognizable image.

Wall Hanging: Item must be intended for use as a display on a wall. Circumference should be less than 264 inches.

Wearable Arts: The item concentrates on the artistic interpretation via the medium of fashion. The item must be intended for use a worn garment. The item must be quilted.

Quilt Crazy Challenge Quilt Rules:

  1. Express the theme: Quilt Crazy
  2. Perimeter: no greater than 96"
  3. Must use 10 (or more) different fabrics
  4. Include at least two of the following embellishments: embroidery, silk ribbon embroidery, beads, buttons, stencils, fabric paint or crayons, foil, non-traditional appliqued items (such as bits of crochet, pictures transferred to fabric, handkerchiefs)
  5. Submit no later than when judged quilts are due

Quilt Crazy Challenge Quilt Prize Categories:

  1. Best represents theme
  2. Best use of embellishments
  3. Most creative
