"Jan Hawks - Sculpted Threads"
Linda Hertensteiner
On Saturday, February 20, eleven of us gathered at Hardesty Regional Library for a full-day workshop with Janet Hawks to learn her Sculpted Threads technique. Jan is an experienced teacher and workshop leader, who had everything prepared for us to sit down and start sewing (we brought our own machines and thread, but were also able to use some of Jan's fantastic threads from her collection!). Everyone completed at least three shapes which could be combined or used individually to create pieces of jewelry (including a pair of earrings).

The hours just flew by, even though many of us continued working through lunch. At the end of the day, we made Jan promise to come back to do an "advanced" workshop later this the year. At that time, we will attempt to make one of the thread sculptures from Jan's book, Sculpted Threads, that have made her famous! We thank Jan for an educational and really fun workshop, and we celebrate the wonderful talents she has brought to our guild!
Click here to see photos from the workshop. Participants concentrated on creating a thing of beauty. Imagine what these will look like once beads and embellishments are added!
Jan has a beautiful website -- www.sculptedthreads.com -- where you can see lots of her beautiful creations.
